Photocatalytic Degradation of Ammonia
- Photo-catalytic degradation of ammonia on TiO2 nanoparticles was carried out using Expanded Clay Aggregate (ECA®) as a light weight support.
- Photo-catalytic reaction activity of prepared catalyst was determined by ammonia degradation from wastewater polluted with ammonia.
- Experiment results showed very high photo-catalytic activity for the immobilized catalysts.
- The ammonia was removed more than 70% within 200 minutes of the process with optimum calcinations temperature 500 °C and pH 10.
- Kinetics of the photo-catalytic reaction followed a pseudo-first order model. By using floated Expanded Clay Aggregate (ECA®) or Lightweight Expanded Clay Aggregate as a photo-catalyst in aqueous solution of NH3−, the ammonia was photo-degraded into H2 and N2 gases, while NO3− and NO4− were formed at very low concentrations
