Ammonium Ion Adsorption

  • There are some important parameters that influence this adsorption process, and these parameters are; initial ammonium ion concentration, initial pH (4 - 9), contact time (0 - 120 minutes), and temperature (10 - 40 0C).
  • The equilibrium level of Expanded Clay Aggregate (ECA®) or Lightweight Expanded Clay Aggregate was also determined while carrying out the ammonium ion removal experiments.
  • It was found out that the equilibrium data fitted well with two Freundlich and Langmuir isotherm models in all the studied temperature range.
  • The max monolayer sorption capacity valued by Langmuir isotherm was obtained from 0.219 - 0.242 (mg/g) with a contact time of 120 min.
  • The rate of absorption process by the Webber–Morris model was proved both by film diffusion and intra-particle diffusion models.
