What is Nitrification? Which size of ECA® is preferred for the same and can it be used for drinking water treatment too?

ECA® (2.5-5 mm High-Density Crushed) media, with its highly porous structure, enables large microbial growth surfaces for biological filtration and reduced operational costs. The preferred aggregate for carrying out the biological process in drinking water treatment (removal of NH4, NO3, Mn, Fe, ...). Also the same is used for biological wastewater treatment processes for nitrification process.

Nitrification: The process of ammonia removal by a biological filter is called nitrification, and consists of the successive oxidation of ammonia to nitrite and finally to nitrate.

Denitrification: Denitrification is an anaerobic process where nitrate is converted to nitrogen gas.
