While constructing platforms into water or in deep seas for loading and unloading ships, the main challenge is faced by engineers is of loose soil. As Expanded Clay Aggregate (ECA) is lightweight, inert, eco-friendly and cost effective, it can be used to an advantage in many quay designs such as sheet pile, sheet pile cell and caisson structures and is also used as fill replacement in solid berth structures when quayside waters are dredged to greater depths.

Expanded Clay Aggregate (ECA) not only has a very low unit weight, it also has minimal buoyancy, making it particularly suitable for filling directly into water. 

As Expanded Clay Aggregate is having very good drainage properties, it prevents water pressure build up during the filling and due to changes in water levels during the final construction.
