Can Expanded Clay Aggregate or ECA ® be used for Thermal insulating mortars & plasters ?

Expanded Clay Aggregate (ECA ®) can be added to mortars and plasters to enhance their thermally-resistant effects. ECA ® consists of tiny, lightweight clay “balls,” which can be as small as 0.5 mm.

Each ball has thousands of tiny holes, in a honeycomb structure, caused by the production process. These tiny voids help minimize thermal conductivity and make it difficult for heat to pass through each ECA ® ball.

By adding ECA ® to mortar and plaster for both exterior and interior use, builders can take advantage of these properties, minimize issues like thermal bridging, and create more efficient, comfortable structures.
