Please explain in brief uses of expanded clay aggregate in bituminous road surfaces

Artificial aggregates, such as Expanded Clay Aggregate (ECA ®) are commonly used in the production of bituminous road surfaces, such as asphalt concrete. When used in a bituminous road surface, ECA ® has a large number of benefits. It can help enhance drainage and keep moisture from damaging the surface of the road, and it also has sound-absorbing qualities that help minimize road noise from driving, making it ideal for loud, busy highways, or for creating quieter roads in suburbs and neighbourhoods. In addition, it has been found that ECA ® asphalt concrete may have a higher coefficient of friction, compared to roads constructed without aggregates.
